2024 ACA Deadlines Are Approaching – Here’s What You Need to Know
As 2024 winds down, it’s time for Applicable Large Employers (ALE) to start thinking about their ACA responsibilities. There are specific deadlines for both furnishing and filing forms, paper and electronic filing considerations, and ACA reporting vendor deadlines to consider. Here are some quick points to consider for the upcoming ACA filing season. February 28, 2025 – File Forms with IRS (Paper filing)* March 3, 2025 – Furnish Form 1095-B & 1095-C to Eligible Employees March 31, 2025 – File Forms with IRS (electronic filing) There is no longer good-faith relief for employers who miss ACA filing deadlines, so it is very important to know exactly what your responsibilities are regarding ACA reporting. It is an employer’s responsibility to know if they are an ALE with ACA reporting obligations. Failure to file (and even late filing) may result in substantial penalties. The ACA affordability percentage increased to 9.02% for the 2025 tax year. The intent of this rule is to ensure employees have access to affordable healthcare coverage, and the change could impact employers if their coverage does not meet this affordability threshold. This is significantly lower than the previous 250 return threshold. Note: The 10-return threshold is aggregated to include all information return types an employer files under the final regulation, meaning 10 information returns of differing but applicable varieties count toward e-filing status.
