Elizabeth Mapes was brought to BASIC with 15 years of customer service experience under her belt.  After working for both a community development organization in South Central Los Angeles and the Kalamazoo Social Security Administration, she is no stranger to the of clients from all different walks of life.  

While attending Western Michigan University pursuing a general communications major, Elizabeth decided to move to Costa Rica for 6 weeks to experience a different culture.  Having taken no Spanish language classes and with no family or friends around, she struggled to communicate her needs and understand the requests of others.  A passion was ignited, and upon her return, she changed directions, earning her B.A. in Spanish and Sociology.  Since then, she has traveled extensively in order to better grasp how different people communicate, and find ways to develop mutual understanding.
